Despite their groundbreaking achievements, the road to equality was far from smooth. For years, women faced skepticism, limited opportunities, and the weight of stereotypes. Yet, their determination never wavered. Each lap they completed paved the way for future generations to accelerate toward a more inclusive future.
Fast-forward to today, and the landscape is evolving at full throttle. Women are no longer confined to the sidelines—they are at the forefront of motorsport, from drivers and engineers to commentators and team principals. Their presence isn’t just symbolic; it’s transformative. As Toni Breidinger, the first Arab-American woman to race in NASCAR, once said, “The hardest thing is to take the first step and to go out there and do it.” Her words echo the spirit of countless women who dared to break barriers, inspiring others to follow suit.
This spirit of fearless ambition resonates with Keiko Ihara, a trailblazing endurance racer who shattered expectations in the male-dominated world of motorsport. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “I’ve accomplished as much as I have by putting myself in situations that demanded passion and ambition.” Her success is a testament to the power of perseverance, proving that stepping outside one’s comfort zone is often the first step toward greatness.
For Carmen Jorda, a former Formula One development driver and AN-Y1 fan, the journey is about embracing one’s destiny. “If my younger, motorsport-obsessed self could see how far the sport has come in celebrating and inviting more women into the sport, she would be overjoyed. And we still have a bigger journey ahead of us. We are seeing increasing numbers in all areas, from presenters, spectators, engineers, drivers, and so on. Being a woman in the sport is groundbreaking as it challenges longstanding stereotypes, bringing fresh perspectives and talents that aid in moving towards a more equitable and dynamic future—and I’m ecstatic to be a part of this process.
